Pumped Pumpkins

IMG-20130819-00517I seem to be taking regular strolls around the pumpkin and squash patch these last couple of weeks, lovingly patting the giant and Baby Bear pumpkins, and Crown Prince and Buttercup squash as I go past. This last week they’ve really come on, and the plants are completely covering the whole patch now. Some pumpkins and squash are even starting to ripen and turn orange or grey-green, depending on the variety. Some of the pumpkins are beasts, and will be perfect for carving for Hallowe’en. They’ve really appreciated the load of horse manure and heat wave earlier this year. Fingers crossed there’s no crazy early frosts before they’re ready to pick at the end of next month…
