Valentine Matchmaking

Well hello worm #465, do you come here often?
Well hello worm #465, do you come here often?

Worm #1, this is worm #2; worm #2…

I’ve done my bit for spreading the wormy love today; I’ve turned the compost heaps. The second and third heap were looking pretty good really; the tarps kept the worst of the rain off (though they were still pretty wet); and now the sun has come out (! amazing!) and the heaps are warming up, the worms are starting to get busy again. By turning the heaps into the next bay along, adding everything that was in the second heap into the third heap, I’m helping the worms with their version of speed dating, and filling the emptier third bay with lots of half-finished compost full of worms from the second bay (and now have a nice empty first bay for new waste etc to be dropped in).

So now hopefully they’ll all get busier together for St Valentine, and produce even more lovely worms to turn the waste veg, cardboard, flowers and weeds into nice dark compost for mulching the herb beds later in the year. I’m sure I’ve read somewhere that worms like Barry White, that might help…
